Stellantis NV (NYSE:STLA, EPA:STLA) and Microsoft Corp (NASDAQ:MSFT) have announced a five-year strategic collaboration aimed at accelerating Stellantis’ digital transformation through artificial intelligence, cybersecurity and cloud technologies.
The partnership expands on an existing relationship and will combine Stellantis’ global automotive engineering and manufacturing scale with Microsoft’s cloud computing, AI and security platforms.
The goal is to speed up innovation across product development, operations, and connected vehicle services, while improving efficiency and agility across the automaker’s global ecosystem.
A central element of the collaboration is the joint development of more than 100 AI initiatives. These will span areas including customer service, engineering, manufacturing and supply chain operations. Key applications include AI-powered product development and validation, predictive maintenance and testing, and faster deployment of digital features and services for vehicles.
The companies also plan to use AI-driven insights to enhance customer experiences from in-vehicle recommendations to improve driving efficiency, proactive vehicle health updates, and more frequent software and feature upgrades delivered over the air.
Stellantis will also establish an AI-driven global cyber defense center covering IT infrastructure, connected vehicles, manufacturing sites and digital services. The system is designed to detect threats more quickly, improve response times, and strengthen protection of customer data and connected systems across the company’s operations.
On infrastructure, Stellantis will expand its use of Microsoft Azure cloud services as part of a broader modernization effort. The company is targeting a 60% reduction in its data center footprint by 2029 as workloads shift to the cloud, aiming to improve scalability, reliability and global delivery of digital services.
Stellantis is rolling out Microsoft productivity and AI tools across its global employee base, including Copilot Chat for all staff and around 20,000 Microsoft 365 Copilot licenses for selected roles. Training programs will support adoption across engineering, manufacturing and supply chain teams.
