A man has been charged by US federal prosecutors with attacking the San Francisco home of OpenAI chief executive Sam Altman with a Molotov cocktail, according to local reports.
Daniel Moreno-Gama, 20, travelled from Texas to carry out the attack on Friday before fleeing on foot to OpenAI's nearby headquarters, where he allegedly attempted to smash the building's glass doors with a chair and told police he had come "to burn down the location and kill anyone inside," prosecutors said.
Police found Moreno-Gama in possession of kerosene, a lighter and a three-part document titled "Your Last Warning," which advocated violence against AI company chief executives and investors and included an admission that he had tried to kill Altman, according to the federal criminal complaint.
No one was injured in either attack.
Moreno-Gama faces charges of destruction of property by means of explosives and possession of an unregistered firearm.
Altman, whose company was valued at $852 billion following a funding round last month, published a rare personal blog post after the attack, calling for a de-escalation of rhetoric around artificial intelligence.
