Meta shares surge on launch of new AI model Muse Spark

Meta Platforms Inc (NASDAQ:META, XETRA:FB2A, SIX:FB) saw its shares rise nearly 9% following the announcement of Muse Spark, the first model from its newly formed Meta Superintelligence Labs.

In a blog post, the company described the model is a natively multimodal reasoning system with features such as tool use, visual chain-of-thought, and multi-agent orchestration.

Meta described Muse Spark as the initial model in a new family of AI tools aimed at enhancing its AI capabilities across the company’s products.

According to the company, the model outperforms its previous systems and narrows the gap with competitors including OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google, though some reports indicate it still trails in areas such as coding.

Muse Spark will initially be available in the standalone Meta AI app and website, with planned expansion to Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Messenger, and Meta’s smart glasses in the coming weeks. While the current version is proprietary, Meta indicated that future models in the Muse family could eventually become open source.

The model is designed for a wide range of tasks, including multimodal perception, reasoning, health guidance, and complex multi-step problem solving.

A feature called “Contemplating mode” allows multiple AI agents to reason in parallel, aiming to improve performance on challenging tasks. Meta highlighted potential applications in interactive experiences, health analysis, and shopping, positioning the model as more than a traditional chatbot.

The company also emphasized that Muse Spark’s scaling infrastructure, including improvements in pretraining, reinforcement learning, and test-time reasoning, supports efficient performance and broader capabilities.

Extensive safety evaluations showed that the model demonstrates strong refusal behavior in high-risk domains, Meta noted.
