BSF Enterprise shares soar as it showcases 'T-rex leather' handbag

BSF Enterprise PLC (LSE:BSFA) shares surged 60% to 3.42p on Tuesday, after touching 4p in opening deals, as the group unveiled what it described as the world’s first handbag made from "T-Rex Leather", through its wholly owned subsidiary Lab-Grown Leather.

The one-off luxury bag, made from cultivated cells, is now on display at the Art Zoo Museum in Amsterdam until 10 May, after making its debut on 2 April beside a life-sized Tyrannosaurus rex structure.

BSF noted the piece was developed with VML, part of WPP, and genomic engineering specialist The Organoid Company, before being designed into a finished handbag by avant-garde label Enfin Levé.

The company said the material was created using reconstructed dinosaur collagen, computational biology and AI modelling, with production handled through Lab-Grown Leather’s tissue engineering platform.

BSF is pitching the product not as a substitute for conventional leather, but as a new luxury biomaterial with traceability and sustainability built in.

Chief executive Che Connon said the launch marked a shift from “Natural heritage to Biotech Exclusivity”.

After the six-week Amsterdam exhibition, the handbag is due to be auctioned, while BSF said the underlying T-Rex leather material is planned for future commercial availability to luxury brands and designers.
