Apple at 50: Tech giant shows no signs of slowing down with AI the next frontier

Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL, XETRA:APC) is celebrating its 50th anniversary on April 1, marking half a century of innovation that has transformed multiple industries and shaped modern digital lifestyles.

From the launch of the Macintosh in 1984 to the iPod in 2001, the iPhone in 2007, and the Apple Watch in 2015, Apple has repeatedly redefined how consumers interact with technology, according to Wedbush analysts.

In a note, Wedbush called the company a “Hall of Fame” performer, noting that Apple’s focus on design, simplicity, and ecosystem control helped it rise from the brink of bankruptcy in the late 1990s to the world’s largest public company today. Apple now counts roughly 1.5 billion iPhones and 2.5 billion iOS devices globally.

“Apple has represented a cornerstone franchise within the tech landscape, portraying a new way for humans and technology to interact while keeping personal data private,” analysts wrote.

2026 is shaping up to be a significant year for product launches as Apple positions itself for the AI era. New devices announced earlier this month feature higher processing performance and expanded memory. Supply chain checks indicate the company is in the later stages of developing its long-rumored foldable iPhone, expected to launch alongside the iPhone 18 in September. Additional Mac products, including potential touchscreen MacBooks, are also anticipated.

Investors are now turning their attention to Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June, where the company is expected to unveil Siri AI and other AI-driven services. Wedbush highlighted potential integration with Google’s Gemini foundation model, new developer tools, and enhanced APIs aimed at privacy-focused, on-device intelligence. Analysts predict an AI subscription service could arrive by 2027.

“Apple remains one of our favorite tech names and one of our IVES AI 30 winners as the consumer AI Revolution ultimately goes through the walls of Cupertino,” analysts noted.

Wedbush has an Outperform rating on the stock.
