Roku set for revenue boost from Home Screen refresh, says Jefferies

Shares of Roku Inc (NASDAQ:ROKU) surged more than 8% Tuesday following a Jefferies note highlighting the revenue potential from the company’s upcoming Home Screen refresh.

Jefferies sees the refresh as a “widely cited catalyst” that could unlock meaningful incremental revenue, particularly through the introduction of biddable performance tiles, or auction-based ad units allowing content partners to bid for prominent Home Screen placement based on outcomes such as app opens or subscriptions.

“Adding 1-3 biddable tile ad units to the Home Screen could lift FY27 Platform revenue roughly 4-7%, depending on the number of tiles introduced,” the analysts wrote, noting that these units would largely represent new ad supply rather than cannibalizing existing formats.

Currently, Roku’s Home Screen inventory is limited to Marquee, Spotlight, and Home Screen takeover ads – all of which are brand-focused. Jefferies highlighted the absence of performance-driven ad formats as a key opportunity. “Roku Home Screen lacks any performance inventory, which we find surprising given the centrality of the surface,” analysts wrote, comparing the situation to e-commerce platforms before sponsored listings were widely adopted.

Jefferies expects the benefits from the Home Screen refresh to accrue gradually, describing it as a “longer-running monetization lever, rather than a single-quarter catalyst.” Early signs indicate the platform is moving toward a more discovery-led experience, including a personalized “For You” row and greater visibility for Roku’s own channels, which could free up new real estate for monetization over time.

The firm also highlighted broader monetization potential across Roku’s platform. “Home Screen under-monetization is just one example that highlights Roku is still early in unlocking platform-wide monetization upside,” Jefferies wrote, adding that the company is “one of the cleanest revision stories in our coverage.”

Jefferies’ analysis comes as Roku prepares to report first-quarter Platform revenue, which the analysts view as conservative, implying roughly a 500 basis point organic deceleration.

The analyst firm reiterated a Buy rating on Roku and set a price target of $135.
