Immunic appoints biopharmaceutical executive Jon Congleton to board

Immunic Inc (NASDAQ:IMUX, FRA:10VA) has announced the appointment of veteran biopharmaceutical executive Jon Congleton to its board of directors, as the company advances its multiple sclerosis program through late-stage development.

Congleton brings nearly four decades of experience in the biopharmaceutical industry, with a background spanning drug development, commercialization, and executive leadership, according to Immunic.

His work has covered multiple therapeutic areas, including cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, and central nervous system (CNS) conditions.

During his career, Congleton was involved in the US launch of Copaxone, a treatment for relapsing forms of multiple sclerosis (MS) developed by Teva Pharmaceuticals Industries. He later led US operations for the product as it became one of the most widely prescribed MS therapies.

Congleton currently serves as chief executive officer of Mineralys Therapeutics, where he has overseen the company’s transition from a private-stage firm to a publicly traded biotechnology company.

His previous leadership roles include serving as CEO of Impel NeuroPharma and Nivalis Therapeutics. Earlier in his career, he held senior positions at Teva, including leadership of its North American neuroscience business and global CNS franchise.

“Jon's deep CNS expertise and proven track record in late-stage drug development and commercialization will be invaluable as we advance vidofludimus calcium through its pivotal clinical milestones and toward potential regulatory approval and commercial launch," said Simona Skerjanec, interim chairperson of Immunic’s board of directors.

"I am thrilled that Jon is joining us at this critical moment as we evolve our Board to support Immunic in its transition into a fully integrated commercial-stage company."

Congleton described vidofludimus calcium as a “potentially transformative opportunity” for MS patients, noting its advantages over currently available therapies.

“I look forward to working with the Board and the leadership team and contributing my experience to support Immunic as it advances toward the pivotal trial readouts later this year and long-term value creation,” Congleton said.

Shares of Immunic were up around 5.3% on Tuesday morning.
