OpenAI has unveiled a new enterprise offering, dubbed Frontier, signaling its next push into the corporate market.
Announced in early February, Frontier is designed as a platform for building, deploying, and managing AI agents, marking OpenAI’s move beyond model access toward a full “agent orchestration” layer for businesses, according to UBS.
The rollout comes as OpenAI increasingly relies on enterprise customers, now estimated to contribute 40% to 45% of its revenue. Frontier joins ChatGPT for Enterprise and OpenAI Codex as the company’s core tools for corporate adoption, aiming to automate knowledge work across sales, marketing, and customer support.
Analysts say that if AI agents gain traction over the next two years, Frontier could become a significant incremental revenue driver for OpenAI.
Frontier’s launch also has implications for the cloud market. Amazon Web Services has been named the exclusive distribution partner for the platform, positioning AWS to capture a boost in enterprise cloud spend tied to AI agent deployments. Microsoft’s Azure, meanwhile, remains a beneficiary if Frontier usage still relies on stateless API calls to its cloud, though the acceleration of third-party AI agents could pose longer-term competitive headwinds for the software giant.
The new platform also puts OpenAI in closer competition with software incumbents such as Salesforce, ServiceNow, and Workday, which are pursuing their own AI agent and automation strategies. Frontier is intended to complement rather than replace core enterprise systems, aiming to address organizational complexities that can limit AI agent performance.
UBS analysts noted that parts of Frontier, including its semantic layer and use of fully differential embeddings, resemble features found in Palantir’s offerings, though any success in unlocking corporate data value may ultimately benefit established data infrastructure providers.
Frontier’s early-stage rollout is part of a broader trend of AI agents moving from experimental tools to enterprise-scale applications. For investors, the platform represents a bellwether for how OpenAI’s technology could reshape enterprise software and cloud spending in the coming years.
