AdAlta Ltd (ASX:1AD) has secured a Canadian patent for its lead anti-fibrotic drug candidate AD-214, completing composition-of-matter protection across all major commercial markets and strengthening its position ahead of potential partnering discussions.
The patent, granted by the Canadian Intellectual Property Office, covers the i-body® sequence underpinning AD-214 and has an expiry date of January 8, 2036.

With this addition, AD-214 is now protected in the United States, Canada, European Union and Japan, as well as in key manufacturing jurisdictions including China and India.
The patent also covers related pharmaceutical compositions and therapeutic uses, including idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) and kidney fibrosis, the primary indications targeted in its development program.
"Composition of matter patents are the strongest form of patent protection and a key part of the data package partners expect from us,” AdAlta chief executive officer Tim Oldham said. “This Canadian patent completes the protection of AD-214 in all major commercial markets and its potential supply chain.”
Partnering pathway in focus
AdAlta has also lodged additional patent applications covering dosing and treatment methods, which, if granted, could extend exclusivity for AD-214 out to 2043.
The company has previously reported positive early-stage clinical and preclinical results and is seeking a commercial partner to advance AD-214 into later-stage development.
Alongside its fibrosis program, AdAlta is also progressing cellular immunotherapy assets through its AdCella subsidiary, targeting solid tumours and other high-need disease areas.
