Proactive news summary, including fastjet, Hummingbird Resources, Sirius Minerals and Active Energy

A mixed news bag from budget carriers to biotechs..Here are some highlights..

A mixed news bag from budget carriers to biotechs.

The trajectory is certainly upward for fastjet (LON:FJET), the Africa-focused budget airline, which revealed passenger numbers were ahead 23% year-on-year in its key market of Tanzania.

The airline carried 65,216 people in June compared to 53,232 in the same month last year.

Investors welcomed Friday's stats report for the month just gone, pushing shares up over 2% to 97p each.

Elsewhere, star fund manager Neil Woodford has increased his stake in stem cell therapy group ReNeuron (LON:RENE) through backing a hefty fund raise at a premium to the share price.

ReNeuron is raising £68.4mln of which Woodford Investment Management is putting up almost half.

Woodford, one of the UK's best known money managers, was a star performer at Invesco before branching out on his own.

Elsewhere, Sirius Minerals (LON:SXX) expects to complete a definitive feasibility study for the York Potash project by the fourth quarter.

Project financing, for the mine’s first stage, is expected to follow in the first quarter of 2016.

Planning approval has been granted for York Potash, a proposed underground mine inland, between northern seaside towns Scarborough and Whitby, and the company is now advancing towards the construction phase of the project.

Elsewhere, in diggers, W Resources has completed the latest round of infill drilling at its La Parrilla tungsten project in Spain.

The results from the drilling will feed into an updated resource and initial reserve for La Parrilla which is due for release towards the end of the year.

That in turn will form the basis for the initiation of mining, due in 2016.

A new law banning the export of unprocessed wood from Ukraine will not apply to Active Energy Group (LON:AEG), the AIM-listed timber specialist has confirmed, addressing market speculation.

The 10-year embargo doesn’t affect the group because its end product - wood chip - is processed.

In fact, AEG believes the new legislation could provide a net benefit to its operations by developing the processing industry and providing shipping and logistics opportunities.

Its Ukraine business is significant as it generated revenues of US$17.4mln last year – an eleven-fold increase on 12 months earlier.

Although construction work at the Yanfolila gold project in Mali has been grabbing all the focus lately, Hummingbird Resources (LON:HUM) hasn’t forgotten about the bigger fish that it has to fry at Dugbe in Liberia.

The company has now signed a Mineral Development Agreement with the government of Liberia, which locks in a workable 3% royalty rate, 25% corporate tax including credits for expenditures, and a 50% reduction in fuel duties that rises to 75% if gold remains under US$1,500 per ounce.

In return the government of Liberia has been granted a 10% free carry in Dugbe.

The intention from both sides is clear: as Yanfolilia steams into production, Dugbe should not be forgotten.

With a current resource of around 4.2 million ounces, Dugbe is significantly larger than Yanfolila which, at the last count, boasted around 1.8 million ounces.
