Small Cap Watch: Exploration approvals, uranium expansion and fresh funding boost small caps

Small-cap investors are heading into Tuesday’s session with a stronger global lead, after Wall Street rebounded overnight and ASX futures pointed to a firmer open. The ASX Small Ordinaries fell 1.56% on Monday, underperforming the broader market as investors turned defensive ahead of the Reserve Bank’s rate decision and ongoing volatility in global energy markets.

Against that backdrop, several juniors released early updates spanning project approvals, uranium exploration expansion and funding developments.

Far East Gold

Far East Gold Ltd (ASX:FEG) has cleared a major regulatory hurdle at its flagship Idenburg Gold Project in Indonesia, securing environmental approval to conduct advanced exploration across an 8,950-hectare area covering the project’s core development corridor.

The approval allows the company to accelerate drilling and other exploration activities at the project, which hosts a JORC resource of 540,000 ounces of gold at 4.1 g/t and 468,000 ounces of silver, with further resource expansion work underway.

AuKing Mining

AuKing Mining Ltd (ASX:AKN) has transferred four strategic uranium tenements adjacent to the Manyoni Uranium Project in Tanzania to Moab Minerals’ Tanzanian subsidiary, consolidating exploration ground across the broader palaeochannel uranium system.

The move expands the prospective landholding around Manyoni — where a recent resource upgrade lifted the project to 27.19 million pounds of uranium — and sets the stage for step-out drilling and metallurgical test work planned for the newly acquired licences.

Janus Electric

Janus Electric Holdings Ltd (ASX:JNS) has received $1.41 million from the Australian Taxation Office relating to a FY24 tax refund, providing a boost to the company’s near-term liquidity.

The funds will support ongoing commercialisation of the company’s heavy-vehicle electrification platform, which includes battery swap systems, truck conversion kits and fleet management software aimed at decarbonising freight transport.
