OpenAI in talks with private equity firms on potential $10B enterprise AI venture: reports

OpenAI is in advanced discussions with several private equity firms to launch a joint venture aimed at deploying its enterprise artificial intelligence products across the firms’ portfolio companies, in a deal that could be worth about $10 billion, Reuters reported Monday.

The proposed venture would be led by TPG with backing from Bain Capital, Advent International and Brookfield Asset Management, the report said.

Under the proposal, the private equity firms would each invest roughly $4 billion in exchange for equity stakes in the venture, which would focus on integrating OpenAI’s enterprise software and tools across the companies they own or manage.

The talks come as OpenAI competes with rival Anthropic to deepen ties with private equity investors and expand the reach of its AI products among corporate customers.

A partnership with major buyout firms could provide OpenAI with a large base of enterprise clients, while allowing private equity firms to accelerate the adoption of generative AI tools across their portfolio companies.

The discussions are ongoing and the structure or size of the potential deal could still change, the report said.
