Cambridge Cognition's drug development investment reaches clinical milestone with study of compound targeting early-stage schizophrenia risk
Monument Therapeutics, a drug development company in which Cambridge Cognition Holdings PLC (AIM:COG) holds a 20% stake, has dosed the first patient in a clinical trial of MT1988, a compound targeting individuals at clinical high risk (CHR) for psychosis.
Cambridge Cognition, the AIM-listed neuroscience technology company, said the trial marked a significant value inflexion point for its investment in Monument.
The randomised, placebo-controlled study will enrol 150 participants who will receive one of two doses of MT1988 or a placebo over eight weeks, with the aim of evaluating whether the compound can improve cognitive symptoms in people at risk of developing schizophrenia.
The trial is being conducted in collaboration with the Foundation for the National Institutes of Health as part of the Accelerating Medicines Partnership Schizophrenia programme.
There are currently no approved drug treatments for the CHR population, despite the condition representing a significant and identifiable stage of illness.
Cambridge Cognition's digital cognitive assessment tools were used in the early development of MT1988 and helped shape the biomarker strategy underpinning the trial design.
