Small Cap Watch: Uranium and rare earths names lift as commodity volatility returns

Small caps remain sensitive to the sharp swings across energy and critical minerals markets, with uranium, rare earths and gold exposure drawing renewed attention amid elevated geopolitical risk and commodity price volatility.

Against that backdrop, several explorers and developers reported resource growth and strategic moves aimed at strengthening long-term project economics.

Atomic Eagle

Atomic Eagle Ltd (ASX:AEU, FRA:6QZ0) lifted total Mineral Resources at its Muntanga Uranium Project in Zambia by 24% to 58.8Mlbs U₃O₈ at 309ppm following its maiden drill program. New pit-constrained estimates were delivered for Chisebuka and Muntanga East, with management highlighting a low discovery cost of US$0.05 per pound.

The company plans to launch its largest drill campaign at Muntanga in nearly 20 years later this month, targeting further growth toward its 40–100.5Mlb exploration target. Cash at December 31, 2025, stood at $19.2 million.

Aruma Resources

Aruma Resources Ltd (ASX:AAJ) has begun a fixed loop electromagnetic survey at its Tillex Copper-Silver Project in Ontario’s Timmins district. The program will test strike extensions of roughly 500 metres north and south of the current 420-metre drill-defined footprint and assess depth potential to around 400 metres.

Results are expected this month and will guide a planned diamond drilling campaign as Aruma moves to accelerate exploration following last month’s acquisition.

Lindian Resources

Lindian Resources Ltd (ASX:LIN, OTC:LINIF) has signed a binding term sheet to acquire 100% of an operating mixed rare earth carbonate processing facility in Kazakhstan via a 51:49 joint venture with RA-Group LLP. The US$15 million deal shifts Lindian downstream into higher-value MREC production, with commercial output targeted for Q4 2026.

Stage 1 feedstock from Kangankunde in Malawi is expected to supply about 12,500 tonnes per annum of monazite concentrate, with Lindian retaining operational oversight and marketing rights.

St George Mining

St George Mining Ltd (ASX:SGQ, FRA:S0G, OTC:SGQMF) reported a 75% increase in the Mineral Resource at its Araxá rare earths–niobium project in Brazil, lifting the total to 70.91Mt at 4.06% TREO and 0.62% Nb₂O₅. Measured and Indicated resources rose 218% to 29.49Mt, strengthening the basis for future studies.

The estimate excludes 44 recent expansion holes and the East Araxá discovery, leaving scope for further growth. Much of the resource sits within 120 metres of surface, supporting potential open-pit development.
