New Era Energy & Digital (NASDAQ:NUAI) announced that its strategic partner, Thunderhead Energy Solutions, has entered into a commercial arrangement with Turbine-X Energy to support a planned 450-megawatt behind-the-meter generation project at its Texas Critical Data Center (TCDC) site in Midland, Texas.
The arrangement secures access to key power generation equipment for the TCDC project, which is designed to serve a hyperscale anchor tenant focused on artificial intelligence and high-performance cloud workloads.
The companies are advancing procurement activities and working to finalize definitive purchase documentation in line with the project’s anticipated development and construction timeline.
New Era said the behind-the-meter generation strategy is intended to provide dedicated power for the data center.
"In an environment where power availability is the primary constraint to AI and HPC expansion, our behind-the-meter strategy, executed with expert partners like Thunderhead, is the definitive solution," New Era Energy & Digital CEO Will Gray said.
"Securing the critical-path power equipment for our anchor tenant's build-out significantly de-risks the project's supply chain and construction timeline—all without direct capital expenditure from New Era. This is our model in action."
The company added that the approach aligns with the Trump Administration’s Ratepayer Protection Pledge, which encourages large data center developments to secure private power solutions to limit incremental strain on the public grid.
