ION Video resets strategy, cuts liabilities and pushes towards AI commercialisation

Ion Video Ltd (ASX:IOV) has detailed a sweeping strategic reset in its CEO half-year report, repositioning the company as enabling infrastructure that makes video programmable for artificial intelligence.

Over the past seven months, ION Video has rebranded from Linius and shifted away from bespoke software projects to a pure intellectual property and licensing model built around its foundational video virtualisation patents. Management said a comprehensive review revealed the company “did not own a feature or a product. It owned an architecture for how video could exist inside intelligent systems.”

The group has rebuilt its leadership, engineering and marketing teams and is now targeting hyperscalers, AI platforms and chip providers rather than end users.

On February 9, ION formally relaunched and demonstrated what it described as the world’s first prompt-to-virtual-video interface, showing how AI can dynamically assemble personalised video from existing libraries in real time without rendering new files.

Financially, the company has reduced total liabilities from $2.8 million on June 30, 2025, to $561,000 as of December 3, 2025, while lowering monthly cash burn to about $180,000. ION said it is funded until at least April to June 2027 as it executes its validation and commercialisation roadmap.

Management is now focused on independent technical validation, lab trials with pre-agreed licensing terms and structured partnerships aimed at converting its patent portfolio into commercial revenue.
