London's mining stocks were among the early risers on Wednesday, with shares rebounding as metals prices recovered from drops earlier in the week.
Antofagasta PLC, Glencore PLC and Anglo American PLC were near the top of the FTSE 100 leaderboard in initial trades, all up around 2%.
Copper edged 0.86% higher to $5.69 a pound for US Comex copper futures, still down 3.9% over the past month but up 24% year on year.
Glencore also published final results, where core earnings dipped 6% but the second half showed a clear improvement, with management talking up the copper-led growth story.
Precious metals miners Fresnillo PLC, Endeavour Mining PLC, Hochschild Mining PLC and Pan African Resources PLC were among the risers among blue-chips and mid-caps, all up close to 0.6%.
Gold rose 0.97% to $4,926.40 an ounce, leaving it up 4.4% over the past month and over 66% since a year ago. Silver gained 2.83% to $75.62, down 22.15% over the month but up 124% over the year.
