Strategic Minerals chief buys shares

Chief executive John Peters has increased his shareholding

Strategic Minerals (LON:SML) said chief executive John Peters had bought shares in the firm worth £23,500.

On Friday he bought 4.7mln shares at 0.50 pence a pop.

He is now beneficially interested in 5.7mln shares - or 0.64% of the share capital.

Last week, the mining group told investors at its annual meeting it wanted to acquire more small resource projects with near term cash flows, that supply local markets.

The aim is to become a profitable mining company in two to three years.

Since the end of 2014, Strategic has bought a New Zealand coal mine (Tatu) while due diligence is underway on a second coal mine in China.

Peters took over in January after the slump in the iron ore price had taken a toll on its US-based tailings operation Cobre.
