BT Group PLC (LSE:BT.A) has announced a leadership reshuffle across two of its core business units, with Katie Milligan set to become chief executive of Openreach from 1 April.
Clive Selley, the current Openreach CEO, will move to head BT International. He succeeds Bas Burger, who is stepping down after 18 years with the group.
Milligan is currently deputy CEO at Openreach, the UK’s largest digital infrastructure provider.
She joined BT in 2004 and moved to Openreach in 2009, where she has held several senior roles, including chief commercial officer.
She is credited with helping return the business to revenue and earnings growth and leading on key pricing frameworks such as Equinox and Equinox 2.
Selley, who has led Openreach since 2017, oversaw one of the fastest fibre broadband deployments in Europe, passing more than 21 million premises.
He previously headed BT’s technology division and was awarded a CBE for services to telecoms during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Bas Burger, CEO of BT International and a member of the executive committee for nine years, will leave the company in April.
He led the restructuring of BT’s global operations and was instrumental in establishing BT International as a standalone business unit focused on multinational customers.

"Her deep industry experience, strong people leadership and sharp operational instincts make her the right leader to take Openreach forward.”
She added: “Clive’s contribution at the helm of Openreach has been exceptional. His lasting legacy is a world-class digital infrastructure that will serve the UK for generations to come.”
On the wider changes, Kirkby said the appointments would support the next phase of BT’s transformation: “Together these changes strengthen BT Group’s leadership for the next chapter, giving Openreach continued commercial and customer momentum in the UK, and speeding up the transformation of BT International.”
