Centrica PLC has completed the sale of three non-core energy solutions businesses in Europe for more than £80 million as the British Gas owner sharpens its focus on higher growth areas.
The FTSE 100 company said its energy solutions operations in Italy and the Netherlands have been sold to Joulz, a portfolio company of 3i Infrastructure PLC.
Its Hungarian business has been sold through a management buyout.
Centrica has also finalised the disposal of US business energy services outfit Panoramic Power, which it had bought in 2015 for $60 million.
Chris O’Shea, group chief executive, said: “These transactions reflect a strategic decision to focus our resources on Centrica Business’s core growth and innovation priorities which will better position the business to pursue new opportunities and accelerate growth in key markets.”
He added: “Building on our recent sales from Spirit Energy, these transactions demonstrate Centrica’s commitment to recycling capital from non-core assets into new investment opportunities across the group, including long-term regulated and contracted assets such as Sizewell C and Grain LNG.”
In December, the company's majority-owned Spirit Energy sold its final 15% interest in the Cygnus gas field, along with all other producing assets in the Greater Markham Area and Southern North Sea, to Serica Energy for a total transaction value of approximately £98 million.
