Seeing Machines’ (LON:SEE) in-cab fatigue monitors are to be rolled out by Caterpillar in risk assessment programmes across its full range of customers .
The vehicle giant has already installed Seeing Machines’ DSS technology in mining fleets for companies such as BHP Billiton, but this initiative will broaden the scope to other off-road uses such as construction and quarrying.
The DSS face monitors will be used to help customers understand fully the risks of driver fatigue within their operations, Caterpillar said. Data from the face monitors will help pinpoint the sources of fatigue and distraction risks and how to avoid them.
Tim Crane, manager of Caterpillar Safety Services, said DSS’s ability to alert drivers in real-time was critical.
“From a long-term perspective it provides the facts and data needed to drive improvements to management systems, processes and training."
Ken Kroeger, Seeing Machines added: "These assessments will gradually replace Seeing Machines' very successful DSS trial program while broadening the technology's geographical footprint and expanding the offering from only the mining sector into the other Caterpillar fields of operation.”
