Futura Medical PLC (AIM:FUM, OTC:FAMDF, FRA:GYX) has secured a US notice of allowance for a continuation patent covering its erectile dysfunction treatment Eroxon and an in-development women’s sexual health product, extending protection until 2040.
The consumer healthcare group, listed on London’s Alternative Investment Market, said the patent includes formulation claims that also apply to the Eroxon Intense formulation and its investigational product WSD4000.
Futura expects the patent to be granted before the end of the second quarter of 2026, which would trigger a milestone payment of $2.5 million from Haleon under the terms of its licensing agreement.
Chief executive Alex Duggan said, “The grant of this patent in the US will be a major milestone for Futura and is one of our key objectives for 2026.”
He added that the payment would “secure our cash runway to support current development opportunities”.
The patent adds to existing intellectual property rights already granted in Europe, Hong Kong, Taiwan and China. Further applications remain under review in additional markets.
Duggan said the patent would “provide an enhanced competitive position for both current and potential new formulations of Eroxon” in the US, the world’s largest market for erectile dysfunction treatments.
