Sirius races to lead AIM after York Potash green light

AIM's stand-out small cap this week was Sirius Minerals

Approval to build a new British mine saw Sirius Minerals (LON:SXX) as the stand-out small cap this week.

Sirius shares advanced up to 90%, as high as 29p, after a special planning committee gave the US$1.7bn project the green light on Wednesday.

Sirius Minerals boss Chris Fraser described Wednesday’s approval as a ‘major step forward’ but added that it is still really just the beginning for the project and the company.

It was a positive week for the small cap market generally, and the FTSE AIM 100 advanced nearly 2% over the past five trading sessions up to around 3,455 this afternoon.

Internet tech group Phorm (LON:PHRM), up over 20% on Friday, revealed higher second quarter revenues in Russia.

Netcall (LON:NET) dropped around 7% with the news that AIM peer Eckoh won’t now proceed with a proposed £88mln takeover because a major shareholder would not support a deal.

Elsewhere in the junior tech sector Ubisense (LON:UBI), which produces ‘smart factory’ software for car makers, issued another profit warning after more contract delays. The shares fell 11% on Friday.

Motive Television (LON:MTV) shares advanced on Thursday with the launch of recording capabilities for its recently launched ‘tablet TV’ app.

Rightster (LON:RSTR), the online video distributor, landed a high profile contract with Universal Pictures to support social video content surrounding the launch of the new Minion movie.

Spoken word and audio content platform Audioboom (LON:BOOM), which hosted the new Russell Brand podcasts, this week took “a very big step towards revenue generation” as it signed a new partnership with America’s second largest network of radio stations.

As well as facilitating the distribution of online audio segments, Audioboom and Cumulus Media will work together on new source of audio content and advertising.
