Digi Power X Inc (NASDAQ:DGXX, FRA:1NQ0, TSX-V:DGX) said on Monday that former Verizon Communications chairman and CEO Hans Vestberg has joined the company as a senior advisor.
Vestberg, who led Verizon’s first commercial 5G rollout in 2018, will serve on Digi Power X’s advisory board and support its expansion strategy, the company said. He brings more than three decades of experience in telecommunications networks, large-scale infrastructure and capital deployment.
Before joining Verizon, Vestberg spent nearly 30 years at Ericsson, including almost seven years as chief executive, where he helped oversee infrastructure carrying roughly 35% of global mobile traffic.
Digi Power X, which trades on Nasdaq and the TSX Venture Exchange, focuses on deploying Tier-3 modular AI data centers powered by company-owned and controlled energy assets. The company said Vestberg’s appointment comes as AI adoption is increasingly constrained by power availability, cooling capacity and deployment speed rather than software or chips.
“Hans Vestberg built and scaled the physical infrastructure that helped enable the fiber, mobile and 5G revolutions,” said Digi Power X chairman and CEO Michel Amar, adding that his experience would be critical as the company expands.
Vestberg said the next phase of digital growth would center on infrastructure that processes data, not just networks that move it. “Digipower X is more than just a data center company. It controls its power, is developing the ability to deploy Tier-3 infrastructure in the near term, and is building a modular platform to address the exact constraints holding back large-scale AI deployment,” Vestberg said. “Its focus on power availability and deployment speed first, real estate second, is exactly the right approach."
The company operates a combined-cycle power plant and three additional operating sites, with more than 200 megawatts currently online. Digi Power X said it has development capacity to support up to an additional 1.5 gigawatts of power over the next three years, including sites in North Carolina and West Virginia.
Vestberg currently serves on the boards of BlackRock and Verizon.
