Nvidia, Microsoft, Amazon lead up to $100B OpenAI investment: report

Nvidia Corp (NASDAQ:NVDA, XETRA:NVD), Microsoft Corp (NASDAQ:MSFT) and Amazon.com Inc (NASDAQ:AMZN) are in discussions to invest up to $60 billion in OpenAI as part of a major new funding round, according to a new report from The Information, which cited people familiar with the matter.

The planned investments would form part of a broader round that could reach as much as $100 billion, potentially valuing OpenAI at between roughly $730 billion and $830 billion, according to the report.

Nvidia, an existing backer, is said to be considering an investment of up to $30 billion, while Microsoft, OpenAI’s longtime partner and investor, is reportedly exploring a commitment of less than $10 billion.

Amazon, which would be a new investor, could contribute more than $10 billion and possibly more than $20 billion, The Information said.

The report said discussions are at an early stage and details remain subject to change. Term sheets are said to be nearing, but none of the companies have publicly confirmed their participation or the size of any potential commitments.

The prospective funding would come as OpenAI faces significant costs associated with training and operating large-scale artificial intelligence models, with the company reportedly projecting multibillion-dollar losses in 2026 tied to infrastructure and development expenses. The round could help support continued expansion of compute capacity and product development, including enterprise offerings.

Amazon’s potential investment may be linked to broader commercial negotiations, including cloud infrastructure arrangements and enterprise product partnerships, according to the report.
