Small Cap Watch: resources and critical minerals dominate small-cap flow

Small-cap newsflow this morning is firmly resource-led, with gold strength, critical minerals positioning and a busy run of quarterlies shaping updates across the board. While the stronger Aussie dollar adds some complexity, the broader commodity backdrop remains supportive for early news flow and quarterly reporting from juniors.

D3 Energy

D3 Energy Ltd (ASX:D3E, OTCQB:DNRGF) completed the acquisition of two large helium and hydrogen exploration permits in South Australia’s Arckaringa Basin, adding a new domestic growth leg alongside its South African helium project.

The company now holds PEL 121 and PEL 122, covering a combined 5,865km², after issuing 5 million escrowed shares to acquire Unleash Energy. Early-stage prospects Hydrohelix and Cootanoorina have already been identified, with Hydrohelix described as a shallow, drill-ready target.

Aurum Resources

Aurum Resources Ltd (ASX:AUE) reported further high-grade gold intercepts from infill and step-back drilling at the BMT3 deposit within its 2.41Moz Boundiali project in Côte d’Ivoire.

Recent highlights included 6.89m at 7.22g/t gold and 17.3m at 2.64g/t, supporting depth continuity and resource confidence ahead of an updated Boundiali MRE and PFS, both due in Q1 CY2026. Aurum ended December with about $40 million in cash.

archTIS

archTIS Ltd (ASX:AR9, OTCQB:ARHLF) said it has completed custom development work for a US Department of Defense project announced last October, delivering a production-ready solution.

The only remaining step is a third-party integration component expected in early February. The milestone supports ongoing engagement with the DoD and progression toward a potential enterprise-level licensing opportunity.

St George Mining

St George Mining Ltd (ASX:SGQ, FRA:S0G) appointed Washington DC advisory firm Ervin Graves Strategy Group to strengthen engagement with US government agencies as momentum builds around Western Hemisphere critical minerals supply chains.

The move supports strategic discussions around the company’s Araxá rare earths-niobium project in Brazil, which St George says is well placed to align with escalating US funding and partnership initiatives.

Quarterlies

Greatland Resources

Greatland Resources Ltd (AIM:GGP, OTC:GRLGF, FRA:G8G, ASX:GGP) delivered another strong quarter at Telfer, producing 86,273oz of gold and 3,528t of copper at AISC of $2,196/oz.

Operating cash flow reached $406 million, lifting closing cash to $948 million, with the company remaining debt free. Drilling continued at pace, including further high-grade results from the West Dome underground area.

Antipa Minerals

Antipa Minerals Ltd (ASX:AZY) capped a transformational year with an updated Minyari Dome MRE, adding 163koz of gold and 6.6kt of copper over the December quarter.

The resource now stands at 58Mt for 2.7Moz of gold and 90kt of copper, equivalent to 3.3Moz AuEq, with ongoing drilling and PFS workstreams aimed at further de-risking the Paterson Province development.

American Rare Earths

American Rare Earths Ltd (ASX:ARR, OTCQB:ARRNF) achieved a key metallurgical milestone over the quarter, successfully producing mixed rare earth oxide from Halleck Creek ore using its updated processing flowsheet.

The company also completed a resource update at the Cowboy State Mine, advanced beneficiation optimisation work, and appointed Mark Wall as CEO. ARR ended the quarter with $24 million in cash.

Altech Batteries

Altech Batteries Ltd (ASX:ATC, OTC:ALTHF, FRA:A3Y) reported improved test results from its Silumina Anodes™ technology in the December quarter, with a 5% silicon addition achieving 88.5% capacity retention after 500 cycles.

The company also raised $6 million via a placement to progress its CERENERGY® and Silumina projects, including prototype and scale-up work.

Constellation Resources

Constellation Resources Ltd (ASX:CR1, FRA:0XX) is set to begin on-ground exploration across its natural hydrogen portfolio after receiving final approvals, with initial soil gas sampling planned this quarter.

The company also outlined a new 1.3km Au-Cu soil anomaly at its Ularring project in WA, which is scheduled for drill testing with EIS support.
