Wincanton wins Halfords haulage deal

Road haulier bags national distribution contract from car parts retailer

Road haulier Wincanton (LON:WIN) has won a contract from bike and car accessory retailer Halfords (LON:HFD) to run its national transport network.

The logistics group will run more than 80 vehicles for Halfords from a hub in Coventry, as well as sites in Redditch, Bury, Mossend, Portbury and Greenford.

Halfords gave the contract to Wincanton after launching a trial project to try to make its delivery network more efficient.

Wincanton chief executive Eric Born said: "Wincanton provides services for many of the major retailers in the UK and we're acutely aware of the challenges they face in a multichannel era.

"Providing flexible and agile logistics support is a key focus for us."

Shares in Wincanton rose 2p to 184p. Halfords' stock lifted 3.5p to 531.5p.
