Western Yilgarn NL (ASX:WYX, OTC:WYGXF) has executed new land access agreements that significantly expand the area available for exploration at its West Julimar Bauxite Project in Western Australia, removing a key constraint on the potential growth of its bauxite inventory and broader alumina asset base.
The agreements provide access to extensive areas of lateritic bauxite immediately adjoining — and linking — the company’s existing JORC-compliant bauxite Mineral Resource at Zones 100 and 200, allowing Western Yilgarn to systematically evaluate, infill and potentially expand mineralisation across a highly prospective stretch of the Darling Range bauxite–alumina corridor.

Access unlocked across Zones 100 and 200
The newly signed agreements cover ground across the majority of the laterite–gravel system that hosts the West Julimar bauxite deposits, delivering continuous access between the two defined resource areas.
West Julimar currently hosts a combined inferred JORC 2012 Mineral Resource of 104.8 million tonnes of bauxite — the aluminium-bearing ore from which alumina is produced — across Zones 100 and 200. Alumina content is expressed as aluminium oxide (Al₂O₃), a key quality metric for bauxite projects.
The resource comprises:
- Zone 100: 42.6Mt at 31.8% Al₂O₃
- Zone 200: 62.2Mt at 36.4% Al₂O₃
Western Yilgarn said the newly accessible land extends directly beyond the existing Mineral Resource boundaries and links Zones 100 and 200 across a continuous geological system, highlighting the potential for the deposits to form part of a larger, unified bauxite footprint.
Resource limits driven by access, not geology
Non-executive director Pedro Kastellorizos said the agreements address a long-standing limitation on the project.
“The newly signed agreements provide access to ground that was previously unavailable for drilling and now links and surrounds the company’s two defined bauxite deposits,” Kastellorizos said.
He noted that historical drilling was largely confined to areas where land access had been secured at the time, meaning Mineral Resource boundaries in many areas terminate at tenure or access limits rather than geological limits. The removal of these restrictions now allows the company to properly assess the scale and continuity of mineralisation across the broader system.
Exploration programs set to ramp up
With access secured, Western Yilgarn plans to commence a suite of early-stage exploration activities across the newly opened ground, including:
- Geological mapping and geochemical sampling
- Rock chip programs
- Environmental assessments ahead of drilling
The company intends to prioritise shallow aircore and auger drilling, which is well suited to laterite-hosted bauxite systems and enables rapid, low-cost testing of large areas.
Planned drilling will target extensions of known mineralisation along strike, areas between Zones 100 and 200, and multiple undrilled laterite plateaux that have not previously been tested.
Strong geological case for expansion
Western Yilgarn considers the newly accessible areas to have a high probability of hosting additional bauxite mineralisation, supported by several key indicators:
- Direct continuity of laterite and gravel units
- Matching geomorphology and surface development
- Proximity to existing high-grade bauxite mineralisation
- Demonstrated thickness and grade in adjacent drilled areas
The company interprets the laterite profile as representing a single bauxite-forming system — a feature typical of large bauxite provinces — providing strong geological support for potential expansion of the existing Mineral Resource through systematic drilling.
Broader strategy and outlook
Western Yilgarn said the combination of secured land access, active field programs and newly incorporated metallurgical datasets positions the company for a strong period of exploration activity and news flow.
While bauxite and alumina remain the primary focus, the company continues to advance a broader multi-commodity strategy in the Western Yilgarn region, including emerging nickel and gallium opportunities. In the near term, attention is firmly on West Julimar, where the removal of access constraints has opened a clear pathway to test the full scale of the bauxite system and potentially grow the project well beyond its current resource footprint.
