Crypto outlook 2026: Binance sees institutional boom

Binance Australia & NZ General Manager Matt Poblocki talked with Proactive about the company's 2026 Outlook and how the cryptocurrency market is evolving into a more mature and institutionalised space.

Poblocki described 2025 as a “year of consolidation” for digital assets, noting that users rotated into blue-chip crypto assets like Bitcoin and Ethereum. He highlighted that these assets are increasingly being adopted by institutions, with Binance now serving over 300 million users globally—its last 100 million added in just 18 months, including many businesses and institutional users.

“Bitcoin is definitely a $1 trillion asset class. That’s indisputable now,” Poblocki said, emphasising that more than 200 public companies globally are holding Bitcoin on their balance sheets.

He also pointed to a 14% rise in institutional users and a 13% increase in institutional trading volume on Binance, describing this as a signal of crypto’s deeper integration into the traditional financial system. Ethereum's case was also discussed, with Poblocki noting growing "buy and hold" behaviour and enhanced scalability, making it more attractive to institutional investors.

On regulation, Poblocki highlighted the importance of clearer frameworks, calling it the “fundamental bedrock” for wider adoption. He noted progress in jurisdictions like the US, UAE, and Australia, with the Australian government’s digital asset platform framework expected to roll out over the next 18 months.

Looking ahead to 2026, he flagged four major trends for investors to watch: the rise of stablecoins, deeper real-world utility, increased blue-chip investing, and growing institutional engagement.

Watch the full interview for insights into how regulation, adoption, and market behaviour are shaping the next phase of crypto.
