Iofina heads for record year as iodine output and profits beat forecasts

Iofina PLC (AIM:IOF, OTC:IOFNF), the AIM-listed iodine producer, has capped a strong year with record output and said revenues and profits for 2025 will come in ahead of market expectations, helped by high iodine prices and rising demand.

The company, which extracts iodine from oilfield brine in the US, produced 743.2 metric tonnes of crystalline iodine in 2025, up 17.2% on the previous year and the highest annual total in its history.

Production in the final quarter alone reached 221.8 tonnes, compared with 194.1 tonnes a year earlier.

That performance puts Iofina at the top end of its own guidance and, combined with what it described as a strong sales cycle in the second half of the year, has lifted financial results.

Revenues for 2025 are expected to exceed $65 million, while EBITDA (a measure of underlying operating profit before interest, tax and other non-cash charges) is forecast to be more than $11 million. Net cash at the end of December stood at $5.2 million, up from $2.9 million a year earlier.

Iodine prices have been an important tailwind. The spot price stayed above $70 per kilogram throughout 2025, and the company said it expects similar conditions to persist into 2026 because of robust global demand.

Iodine is used in a wide range of applications, from medical imaging and pharmaceuticals to electronics and industrial chemicals.

Growth plans are also moving ahead. Iofina is building its largest plant to date in the Permian Basin, a major oil-producing region in the US.

The new facility is designed to process about 50,000 barrels of brine a day, roughly double the capacity of its existing plants in Oklahoma, and is expected to produce between 170 and 220 tonnes of iodine a year once fully up and running.

The company expects the plant to be switched on in the second half of 2026.

In the meantime, production is set to keep rising. Iofina said it expects to produce between 325 and 355 tonnes of iodine in the first half of 2026, compared with 305.5 tonnes in the same period last year.

Output is typically weighted towards the second half of the year, as winter conditions in oilfields tend to reduce volumes earlier on.

Tom Becker, chief executive, said the results reflected “the strength and consistency of our operations across all plants”, adding that momentum in sales seen earlier in the year had carried through to the end of 2025.

“Looking ahead, the board is excited by the outlook for Iofina,” he said. “We believe that the business is in a very strong position against a backdrop of increasing demand for its iodine products and our ongoing programme to continue expanding our iodine production capacity.”

For now, the message from management is straightforward: production is rising, prices are strong and the next phase of growth is already under construction.
