South Harz appoints Christian Barbier as non-executive director

South Harz Potash Ltd (ASX:SHP) has strengthened its board with the appointment of experienced resources executive Christian Barbier as a non-executive director, as the company advances a broader multi-asset critical minerals strategy.

Barbier brings more than 30 years’ experience across the resources and industrial sectors, including senior management roles and board positions spanning Europe, Australia and Asia. His background includes senior executive roles at major ASX-listed companies operating in critical and industrial minerals supply chains.

South Harz executive chairman Len Jubber said Barbier’s appointment comes at a key point in the company’s strategic development following recent corporate and exploration milestones.

“Christian is a highly experienced company executive who will help drive South Harz’s multi-asset critical minerals strategy following the execution of the Option Agreement1 to acquire the Glava Cu-Au-Ag Project and the application for multiple exploration licences1 , including the Torsby West Project in Sweden. Christian has a proven background in the critical minerals sector, including executive roles with Allkem and Iluka, making him an ideal fit for the Company as we progress our strategy amid strong copper and broader commodity markets.”

Track record across lithium and mineral sands

Barbier most recently served as chief sales and marketing officer at Allkem Limited, prior to its merger into Arcadium Lithium PLC (NYSE:ALTM, ASX:LTM) and subsequent integration into Rio Tinto Ltd (LSE:RIO, ASX:RIO, OTC:RTNTF). As a member of Allkem’s executive team, he led global sales and marketing activities and supported the company’s growth into one of the world’s top five lithium producers. During his tenure, Allkem was progressing toward a plan to triple production capacity by 2026.

Before joining Allkem, Barbier spent almost five years at Iluka Resources (ASX: ILU), the world’s leading zircon and rutile producer, where he held the roles of head of sales and marketing and executive committee member, reporting directly to the chief executive officer and board. Iluka has since expanded its footprint in the rare earths supply chain.

Barbier currently manages CRB Resources, a consultancy and advisory firm he founded in 2015, which focuses on strategy, risk management, market entry and partnerships within the critical minerals sector, particularly across lithium and battery supply chains.Iluka Resources Ltd (ASX:ILU). Under the terms of his appointment, Barbier will receive 458,000 incentive options issued under Listing Rule 10.12, Exception 12. The options carry an exercise price set at 100% above the 20-day volume weighted average price prior to grant, expire four years from the grant date, and vest following 18 months of service.

South Harz also confirmed that non-executive director Dr Reinout Koopmans has stepped down from the board with immediate effect after seven years.

Jubber acknowledged Koopmans’ contribution to the company’s evolution.

“On behalf of the South Harz Board, I would also like to thank Reinout for his substantial contribution and efforts over the past seven years as a non-executive director of the company and wish him all the best in the future. Reinout has been an integral part of transitioning South Harz from a single asset company to a diversified company, with a multi-asset critical minerals portfolio and a globally significant potash project, all in first world jurisdictions. His commitment and strategic thinking have helped establish a platform that enabled attracting experienced minerals industry executives, firstly Richard Pearce and now another new board member of Christian’s calibre and experience in the critical minerals sector.”
