Nvidia Corp (NASDAQ:NVDA, XETRA:NVD) and Eli Lilly and Co (NYSE:LLY) have announced the creation of a new AI-focused co-innovation lab aimed at accelerating drug discovery and development.
The lab will combine Lilly’s expertise in medicine discovery, development, and manufacturing with Nvidia’s AI and computing capabilities, the companies announced on Monday.
The facility, to be based in the San Francisco Bay Area, will co-locate Lilly scientists with Nvidia AI researchers and engineers. Teams will work together to generate large-scale data and develop AI models to support faster and more efficient medicine development.
The lab will be built on Nvidia’s BioNeMo platform and Vera Rubin architecture, and will pioneer robotics and physical AI applications in pharmaceutical research and production.
Nvidia and Lilly plan to invest up to $1 billion over five years in talent, infrastructure, and computing resources to support the initiative.
“AI is transforming every industry, and its most profound impact will be in life sciences,” Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said in a statement. “Nvidia and Lilly are bringing together the best of our industries to invent a new blueprint for drug discovery — one where scientists can explore vast biological and chemical spaces in silico before a single molecule is made.”
David Ricks, Lilly CEO, added: “Combining our volumes of data and scientific knowledge with Nvidia’s computational power and model-building expertise could reinvent drug discovery as we know it.”
Shares of Nvidia were up 0.8% at $186 on the update, while Eli Lilly stock added 0.2% at $1,066.
