The ASX200 was up around half a per cent.

Consumer discretionary led today's gains - nudging above 2 per cent - whilst utilities dragged the bourse - and shed around 1.8 per cent.

Astral Resources shot up after securing a key mining lease at the Feysville Gold Project near Kalgoorlie, clearing a regulatory hurdle and allowing early-stage production planning.

Far East Gold was also up today today after confirming lateral extensions of bonanza-grade gold from the Sua Prospect at its Idenburg Gold Project in Indonesia, with one drillhole returning up to 175 grams per tonne over half a metre.

Super Retail Group took a hit on its trading update. The company saw record sales of $2.2 billion — up 4.2% — but profit is expected to fall due to heavy discounting and margin pressure.

Elixir Energy was down despite confirming it's now begun mobilising the H&P FlexRig 3 from Brisbane to the Lorelle-3 well site in Queensland’s Taroom Trough, with drilling expected to begin within two weeks.
