Tamboran Resources Corporation (ASX:TBN, NYSE:TBN, OTC:TBNRL) has appointed Todd Abbott as its new chief executive officer, effective January 15, 2026, as the company prepares to move into the development phase of its Beetaloo Basin gas assets.
Abbott brings more than 25 years of upstream oil and gas experience, with a background spanning unconventional shale operations, business planning, corporate finance and corporate strategy. He most recently served as chief operating officer at Seneca Resources Company LLC, an Appalachian Basin producer operating in the Marcellus and Utica shales.
During his tenure at Seneca, Abbott oversaw a restructuring of the organisation and its operating processes aimed at improving accountability and capital efficiency. These changes delivered an approximately 10% reduction in capital expenditure alongside a roughly 9% increase in production within a single year.
Prior to joining Seneca, Abbott held senior operating roles at Marathon Oil Corporation and Pioneer Natural Resources, including oversight of major producing assets across the Permian Basin, Eagle Ford and Alaska.
Improving productivity
Tamboran chairman and interim chief executive Richard Stoneburner will continue in his role as chairman following Abbott’s appointment.
Stoneburner said Abbott’s background aligned closely with Tamboran’s priorities as it advances development plans in the Northern Territory.
“Todd brings over two decades of upstream experience with a strong record of operational leadership, capital discipline, safety and stewardship. His background at Seneca, Marathon and Pioneer demonstrates an ability to improve productivity while lowering costs, which aligns with our focus on safe and efficient execution and delivering value for shareholders from our Beetaloo Basin development.

Abbott said the scale of Tamboran’s Beetaloo position and the timing of the project’s development phase were key factors in his decision to accept the role.

Abbott holds a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from Texas A&M University and a Master of Business Administration from Southern Methodist University.
