Strategic Minerals (LON:SML) has appointed a mining veteran with over 40 years' experience in coal and other resources as its new chairman.
Alan Broome takes the chair just a few months after Strategic Minerals tied up the acquisition of the Tatu coal mine in New Zealand and started due diligence on a sizeable coal operation in China.
Broome is currently chairman of ASX listed company New Age Exploration, New Zealand companies CRL Energy and Nuenz and was formerly a director of the New Zealand state owned coal miner Solid Energy.
John Peters, Strategic Mineral’s managing director, said the appointment was a real coup.
“Not only does Alan bring with him broad mining industry experience and corporate governance skills but he has demonstrated an in depth understanding of the New Zealand coal market and his network of contacts has already assisted the company in relation to planned operations, regulators and opened dialogue with likely customers at a senior level.”
Another non-executive, M&A specialist Michael Wong, is standing down due to increased workload from his investment bank business in Australia. He joined the board in January.
