Ex-Apple engineers launch Lyte with $107M to build “visual brain” for robots

Three former Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL, XETRA:APC) engineers behind the Face ID depth-sensing technology have launched Lyte, a startup focused on giving robots a “visual brain.”

The Mountain View, California-based company announced $107 million in funding and debuted its flagship product, LyteVision.

LyteVision combines a camera, inertial motion sensing, and a 4D sensor that tracks distance and speed, helping robots perceive and navigate with greater accuracy. Use cases range from humanoid robots to robotaxis and autonomous mobile machines.

Lyte was founded by Alexander Shpunt, Arman Hajati, and Yuval Gerson. CEO Shpunt previously co-founded and served as CTO of PrimeSense, the 3D sensing company behind Microsoft Kinect, which later became the foundation for Apple’s depth-sensing platform.

The funding round attracted investors including Avigdor Willenz’s group, Fidelity Management & Research Company, Atreides Management, Exor Ventures, Key1 Capital, and Venture Tech Alliance.

LyteVision integrates advanced 4D sensing, RGB imaging, and motion awareness into a single platform, delivering unified spatial and visual data. Paired with an AI-driven operating layer, it allows robots to perceive, reason, and act intelligently in dynamic, unpredictable environments such as homes, hospitals, warehouses, and public spaces.

“Robots are moving beyond controlled environments. In those conditions, perception isn’t optional, and the margin for error is narrow,” Shpunt said. “Machines need a unified system — from sensing, through silicon, to AI — that turns raw data into understanding and action.”

At CES 2026, LyteVision earned Best of Innovation in Robotics and was named an Honoree in Vehicle Tech & Advanced Mobility.
