Bright Mind Biosciences shares surge on positive epilepsy drug trial results

Shares of Bright Minds Biosciences Inc (NASDAQ: DRUG, CSE:DRUG) jumped almost 25% after the company announced positive topline results from its Phase 2 BREAKTHROUGH clinical trial of BMB-101 in adults with drug-resistant Absence Seizures and Developmental and Encephalopathic Epilepsies (DEE).

The open-label, multicenter study evaluated 24 patients, exceeding the original target of 20, and included both a 4-week baseline period and subsequent titration and maintenance phases.

Patients in the Absence cohort achieved a 73.1% median reduction in absence seizures lasting three seconds or more, while the DEE cohort showed a 63.3% median reduction in major motor seizures.

The trial also examined sleep effects, with patients in the Absence cohort experiencing a 90% increase in REM sleep, while total sleep duration remained unchanged.

BMB-101 was generally well tolerated. Most adverse events were mild or moderate, with the most common being respiratory infections, fatigue, constipation, headache, and drowsiness. No treatment-related serious adverse events were reported.

Bright Minds said it has begun preparations for global registrational trials in both Absence Seizures and DEE.

The company also plans to initiate a study in Prader Willi Syndrome in the first quarter of 2026.
