Reconnaissance Energy Africa named oil and gas top pick by Research Capital analysts

Reconnaissance Energy Africa Ltd (TSX-V:RECO, OTCQX:RECAF) has been named a top oil and gas pick for 2026 by analysts at Research Capital Corporation, who cited the company’s high-risk, high-reward profile ahead of a pivotal production test.

ReconAfrica is advancing projects in Namibia and Gabon, offering a combination of frontier exploration upside and lower-risk development potential.

“ReconAfrica offers a rare combination of near-term binary upside in Namibia and lower-risk appraisal and development exposure in Gabon,” the analysts wrote.

The firm wrote that the company’s Kavango West 1X (KW1X) well in Namibia, drilled to a total depth of 4,260 metres in December 2025, will undergo a production test in the first quarter of 2026. Wireline logs from KW1X have confirmed significant hydrocarbon pay, advancing the project from concept toward appraisal.

Research Capital described this as a “high-impact catalyst” that could materially influence follow-on prospects across the basin.

In Gabon, ReconAfrica holds a 55% operated interest in the offshore Ngulu PSC, which includes the Loba oil field discovery. The field, located in shallow waters, contains an estimated 70 metres of net oil pay and is situated close to existing infrastructure, offering potential near-term development and production optionality.

The analysts noted that Gabon’s assets complement the higher-risk exploration in Namibia, providing a more balanced portfolio exposure.

Research Capital awarded ReconAfrica a target price of C$4.40, implying upside from its current share price of about $1. They also gave it a “Speculative Buy” rating, highlighting the asymmetric risk-reward profile created by the combination of near-term catalysts and basin-scale exploration potential.

The firm highlighted that while the company’s upcoming production tests present upside opportunities, results that are uneconomic or primarily gas-prone could represent material downside risk.

Key upcoming milestones identified by the analysts include the Q1 2026 KW1X production test and appraisal follow-up decisions, as well as Gabon seismic reprocessing and an independent resource assessment expected in the first half of 2026.
