Novo Nordisk (NYSE:NVO) has made its Wegovy pill, the first oral GLP-1 treatment for weight loss, broadly available to patients in the US.
The launch marks a new development in obesity treatment, offering a once-daily pill alternative to weekly injections that have dominated the market.
The oral drug, approved by US regulators in December 2025, is intended for adults with obesity or overweight individuals with weight-related medical conditions. It is designed to be used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity.
The starting 1.5 mg dose of Wegovy is now available at more than 70,000 US pharmacies, including CVS and Costco, as well as through select telehealth providers such as Ro, LifeMD, Weight Watchers, GoodRx, and Novo Nordisk’s NovoCare Pharmacy.
Cash prices for the pill range from $149 to $299 per month, among the lowest in the current market for GLP-1 medications.
“We know there are people who are interested in addressing their weight but have been waiting on the sidelines for a medicine that was right for them,” said Ed Cinca, senior vice president, marketing & patient solutions at Novo Nordisk. “For many of them, that wait is over as we can now offer the powerful efficacy of Wegovy in a once-daily pill that demonstrated about 17% weight loss, if all patients stayed on treatment.”
Shares of Novo Nordisk traded 4.2% higher on the update.
