374Water and City of St. Cloud, Minnesota partner on PFAS destruction project

374Water Inc (NASDAQ:SCWO) announced that it has been awarded a Waste Destruction Services project to remove per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) from biosolids and water treatment residuals for the City of St. Cloud, Minnesota.

The project is funded by the Legislative-Citizen Commission on Minnesota Resources (LCCMR) and the State’s Environment and Natural Resources Trust Fund.

The initiative will use 374Water’s mobile AirSCWO 1 System to treat undigested and post-thermal hydrolysis digested biosolids, as well as spent granular activated carbon.

The project team includes Barr Engineering, the University of St. Thomas, the Minnesota Technical Assistance Program at the University of Minnesota, and the City of St. Cloud.

The project aims to evaluate the efficiency of PFAS destruction and explore options for disposing of or repurposing treated water and solids. Work is scheduled to begin in April 2026.

“We want to thank the LCCMR and the City of St. Cloud for their partnership and trust in 374Water,” Stephen Jones, 374Water chairman and interim president and CEO, said in a statement.

Jones highlighted Minnesota’s leadership in addressing PFAS contamination, citing a landmark $850 million settlement with a large industrial manufacturer over PFAS-related damage to drinking water and natural resources in the Twin Cities region in 2018.

“This high-profile project provides an excellent opportunity to leverage our AirSCWO PFAS destruction technology on behalf of a US state seeking to solve PFAS-related waste challenges,” Jones said.

“We look forward to working with our partners and stakeholders in this project to recognize AirSCWO’s unique ability to eradicate PFAS contamination in sludge, and safeguard public health.”
