374Water partners with City of Cedar Rapids on PFAS biosolids destruction project, announces board appointment

374Water Inc (NASDAQ:SCWO) announced that the City of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, has partnered with the company on a project aimed at destroying per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in municipal biosolids.

The project will be carried out in partnership with the Cedar Rapids Water Control Pollution Facility (CRWPCF) and engineering consultancy Brown and Caldwell.

The work will evaluate 374Water’s AirSCWO system as a potential replacement for multiple existing treatment processes at the Cedar Rapids facility, the company said.

According to the company, the project is expected to begin in early 2026. The initial phase will involve destruction of biosolids generated at CRWPCF, followed by validation of the results by an independent third-party laboratory.

The findings from the evaluation are expected to be delivered to Brown and Caldwell and the city facility by the end of the first quarter or early in the second quarter of 2026.

PFAS are a group of man-made chemicals that persist in the environment and can accumulate in water, soil, and wastewater systems. 374Water said the City of Cedar Rapids is assessing technologies capable of fully destroying PFAS-contaminated waste streams, including biosolids, as part of efforts to address regulatory requirements and public health considerations.

“374Water is an ideal partner to enable meaningful action against PFAS contamination at the City of Cedar Rapids’ advanced wastewater treatment facility,” said Stephen Jones, 374 Water chairman, interim president and CEO in a statement.

"Our AirSCWO technology has demonstrated the effectiveness, scalability, and versatility of our solutions to destroy solid and liquid wastes.”

Board appointment

Separately, the company announced the appointment of Charles Weiser, CPA, to its board of directors.

The company noted that Weiser brings experience across public and private companies in finance and accounting, strategic planning, business development, turnaround initiatives, and private equity.

Weiser currently serves as chief financial officer of Alonti Catering Kitchens, where he oversees finance, accounting, tax, budgeting, and strategic planning functions. Prior to joining Alonti, he was a managing director at Imperial-Texas, providing accounting and consulting services to businesses globally.

He previously held the role of executive vice president and chief financial officer at American Green Technology, a manufacturer and distributor of lighting products serving commercial, industrial, and healthcare markets.

Weiser holds a master of business administration in finance and accounting and a bachelor of business administration in general business from the University of Texas at Austin. He is a certified public accountant licensed in Texas and Florida.

Jones welcomed Weiser to the company. “His significant financial expertise and senior management background across a portfolio of growth companies will be instrumental in supporting 374Water’s evolution as we continue to focus on commercialization of our AirSCWO technology and building our Waste Destruction Services business,” he said.

“This board appointment is in connection with our working agreement with our largest shareholder and effectively positions the company from a governance perspective for the next phase of our commercialization initiatives.”

Weiser expressed excitement about joining 374Water at what he described as a pivotal time for the company.

“My family, friends, and I have been long time investors in 374Water, since before its listing on Nasdaq in 2022, and I’m looking forward to working with the board and management to support the company on behalf of all of our shareholders,” Weiser said.
