Intel shares slip on reports Nvidia halted 18A chip test

Intel Corp (NASDAQ:INTC, XETRA:INL) shares fell on Wednesday on a Reuters report that Nvidia Corp (NASDAQ:NVDA, XETRA:NVD) had halted a test of Intel’s advanced 18A chipmaking process.

According to Reuters, which cited two people familiar with the matter, Nvidia had been evaluating whether its chips could be manufactured using Intel’s 18A process, one of Intel’s most advanced production technologies.

The sources said Nvidia ultimately decided not to move forward with the testing.

According to the report, the development added pressure to Intel’s stock amid heightened competition in advanced semiconductor manufacturing, particularly for chips used in artificial intelligence applications.

In response to the report, an Intel spokesperson told Reuters that the company’s 18A manufacturing technologies are “progressing well. Nvidia did not comment on the report.

Shares of Intel were down 3.1% at $35, while Nvidia shares edged 0.3% lower at $188.
