Pets at Home Group PLC (LSE:PETS) has appointed former Waitrose managing director James Bailey as its new chief executive, starting in March.
The retailer parted company with previous CEO Lyssa McGowan in September after issuing its second profit warning of the year.
Chair Ian Burke, who stepped into an executive role as an interim measure, will return to his previous non-executive role upon Bailey's arrival.
He said Bailey has "strong retail leadership skills [that] will support the ongoing focus on improving Pets at Home's retail business, with significant operational and commercial experience leading both stores and online operations".
Bailey, who led Waitrose between 2020 and August 2025 and previously held senior roles at J Sainsbury plc over a 20-year period, saidf Pets at Home is "a business I've admired for a long time and one I believe has a very bright future".
Bailey’s remuneration includes a base salary of £639,770, an annual bonus potential of up to 170% of salary, and share options subject to shareholder approval in July 2026.
