BioVie advances lead drug candidates - ICYMI

BioVie Inc (NASDAQ:BIVI, NASDAQ:BIVIW) CEO Cuong Do talked with Proactive about the company’s recent developments in its two lead drug candidates: Bezisterim and BIV201.

Bezisterim, which blocks TNF alpha to reduce inflammation, is being trialed in Parkinson’s disease, long COVID, and Alzheimer’s.

Do said the compound has shown promising results, including “improved muscle control, improved cognition, and a slowing of biological aging.”

A new trial is enrolling 60 earlier-stage Parkinson’s patients to test Bezisterim as a standalone treatment. Topline data is expected by April or May 2026.

Do also discussed a separate 200-patient trial targeting long COVID, which is expected to complete enrollment by February 2026.

The company received a $13 million grant to fund this study, based on inflammation mechanisms linked to long COVID symptoms.

The second candidate, BIV201, is aimed at ascites related to late-stage liver disease.

The phase two trial was ended early after data showed it reduced fluid buildup by more than 50%.

BioVie has now received FDA feedback and authorizations to move forward into a single phase three trial.

Do said, “2026 will be a big catalyst year for us,” highlighting multiple readouts and the start of a potential phase three study.
