Coinbase expands platform to offer stocks, prediction markets, and new crypto services

Coinbase Global Inc (NASDAQ:COIN) is broadening its platform beyond cryptocurrencies, allowing US customers to trade stocks and exchange-traded funds (ETFs) alongside their crypto holdings.

The new offerings, part of a push to become an “everything exchange,” also include prediction markets through Kalshi, decentralized trading of Solana tokens via Jupiter, custom-branded stablecoins, and a range of derivatives and financial services.

CEO Brian Armstrong described the expansion as a step toward blending traditional finance and crypto within a single account.

The stock trading service, available via Coinbase Capital Markets Corp, is commission-free and supports extended trading hours, allowing select stocks to be traded 24 hours a day, five days a week. Customers can trade using either US dollars or Coinbase’s USDC stablecoin. The company plans to add thousands more stocks in the coming months.

Coinbase is also preparing to launch stock-linked perpetual futures, offering continuous exposure to US equities for users outside the United States. In addition, the firm is developing Coinbase Tokenize, an institutional platform for tokenized equities and other real-world assets, with more details expected in 2026.

In the prediction markets segment, Coinbase is partnering with regulated platform Kalshi to let users trade event-based contracts starting with as little as $1. Positions are integrated directly into the Coinbase app alongside crypto and stock holdings.

On the decentralized trading front, the company is integrating Jupiter, Solana’s largest decentralized exchange aggregator, enabling users to trade Solana-based tokens without leaving the Coinbase interface. The rollout includes millions of assets across Solana and Coinbase’s Base network, with plans to expand to additional networks.

Stablecoins are central to Coinbase’s broader payments strategy. The company introduced Custom Stablecoins, allowing firms to issue branded stablecoins backed by flexible collateral, including USDC, putting it in competition with firms such as Paxos and Anchorage. Coinbase has also applied for a National Trust Company charter from the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency.

The expansion marks one of the most aggressive product rollouts in Coinbase’s 13-year history, amid growing competition from fintech apps, decentralized protocols, and global exchanges offering a broader mix of tradable assets.

Shares of Coinbase gained 1% on Thursday.
