NanoViricides (NYSE-A:NNVC) is gearing up to tackle multiple viral threats with Phase 2 trials for its broad-spectrum antiviral NV-378, as analysts at Alliance Global Partners kick off coverage with a Buy rating and $6 price target.
The biotechnology company, which is developing innovative antiviral therapies, is advancing its lead candidate NV-378 into Phase 2 trials next year, targeting a range of viral infections including Mpox, influenza, COVID-19, and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), according to analysts at Alliance Global Partners.
The analysts highlighted the company’s nanoviricide technology as a potentially transformative approach to treating viral infections. “NanoViricides’ nanoviricide platform is designed to bind, engulf, and destroy viruses without relying on the host immune system, offering potential treatment options for patient populations even with weakened immunity,” the firm wrote.
The company completed Phase 1a/1b trials for NV-378 in India in 2023, demonstrating safety and tolerability in 36 healthy subjects, with no reported adverse events or dropouts.
The platform works by mimicking host cells to lure viruses into binding with the nanomachine, which then destroys the virus. Because the therapy targets virus-host interactions rather than human cellular processes, it may remain effective even against viral mutations and in patients with compromised immune systems, analysts noted.
NanoViricides plans to start a Phase 2a/2b trial for NV-378 as a treatment for Mpox in the Democratic Republic of Congo in the first quarter of 2026, followed by a Phase 2 “basket-type” trial later in the year for respiratory infections, including RSV, influenza, and COVID-19.
Beyond NV-378, NanoViricides is developing a preclinical pipeline targeting a broad array of viral diseases. This includes NV-HHV-1, a topical cream for shingles, HSV-1 cold sores, and HSV-2 genital ulcers, as well as candidates targeting HIV/AIDS, DNA viruses, and RNA viruses. Animal efficacy studies are ongoing for these preclinical candidates.
Alliance Global Partners estimates the combined market opportunity for NanoViricides’ pipeline at approximately $17 billion for infectious viral diseases, with the preclinical portfolio alone representing a potential $7 billion market.
The analysts value NV-378 for Mpox at $5.25 per share and the remaining technology, including respiratory antivirals and NV-HHV-1, at $0.75 per share, supporting their $6 price target.
NanoViricides’ approach represents a new class of direct-acting antivirals with the potential to address unmet needs across multiple viral indications, analysts said, noting that positive Phase 2 results could open significant market opportunities for the company.
