Western Yilgarn NL (ASX: WYX) has kicked off on-ground exploration at the Ida Holmes Junction Project in Western Australia and secured an access agreement over its Cardea 2 Bauxite Project, clearing the way for expanded work across its bauxite and critical minerals portfolio.
The approval at Cardea 2, within the Darling Range bauxite–alumina corridor, allows the company to move from desktop studies into field-based programs, including reconnaissance and mapping, reconnaissance drilling (subject to statutory approvals), bulk sampling for metallurgical testwork and environmental baseline studies to support potential development options.

Cardea 2 resource and metallurgical focus
Cardea 2 currently hosts an inferred mineral resource of 20 million tonnes at 32.1% Al₂O₃, including 2.15 million tonnes at 35.7% available alumina with 2.8% reactive silica, forming part of Western Yilgarn’s broader bauxite inventory in the region.
Non-executive director Pedro Kastellorizos said securing access at Cardea 2 was a key step in advancing the company’s bauxite plans.
“Securing the access agreement over Cardea 2 is a key milestone which allows us to commence the required fieldwork to progress the maiden bauxite resource. The integration of the reactive silica and available alumina datasets will be instrumental in shaping the metallurgical framework for this project moving forward.
“At the same time, commencing ground exploration at Ida Holmes Junction marks an exciting phase for the company, with our technical team now validating several high-order geochemical and structural targets. This is a strategically important project area for Western Yilgarn, and we look forward to progressing these targets towards drilling.”
With access in place, the company plans to validate historical geological interpretations and collect metallurgical material as part of a maiden resource evaluation across the contiguous Cardea 1 area.
Ground exploration underway at Ida Holmes Junction
At the same time, Western Yilgarn has launched ground-based exploration at the Ida Holmes Junction Project in the Western Yilgarn region, where recent rock-chip sampling outlined multiple high-priority critical minerals and base metal anomalies.
The anomalies are associated with mafic–ultramafic intrusive corridors, density features interpreted as potential nickel-cobalt targets and structural intersections considered prospective for critical mineral-enriched weathering systems. Initial fieldwork includes rock-chip sampling across exposed mineralised units, as well as environmental and heritage assessments ahead of potential drilling.
Building momentum across multi-commodity portfolio
The combination of secured access at Cardea 2, fieldwork at Ida Holmes Junction and integration of new metallurgical datasets positions it for an active period of exploration and news flow as it continues to advance a multi-commodity strategy across bauxite, nickel, PGE and rare earth targets in Western Australia.
