US officials visit Lindian’s Kangankunde project amid critical minerals push

Lindian Resources Ltd (ASX:LIN, OTC:LINIF) has hosted senior representatives of the United States Government at its Kangankunde Rare Earths Project in Malawi, where the company outlined the development progress underway at Kangankunde and reiterated the project’s potential to supply high-grade rare earths into global markets.

The engagement comes amid heightened US efforts to secure reliable, high-quality critical minerals supply chains, including rare earth elements, as part of broader strategic and economic policy objectives. Discussions focused on the growing strategic importance of rare earths to the global energy transition and the role of stable, high-grade supply in supporting advanced manufacturing, renewable energy technologies and national security applications.

Executive chairman Robert Martin welcomed a delegation that included Nicholas Checker, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for the Bureau of African Affairs. The visit to Kangankunde was followed by meetings in Lilongwe with DAS Checker and Melania Arreaga, Deputy Chief of Mission for the US Embassy in Malawi.

“Following on from a very constructive round of talks in Washington DC, it was a pleasure to sit down and continue those discussions with Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for the Bureau of African Affairs Nicholas Checker and Melania Arreaga, Deputy Chief of Mission for the United States Embassy in Malawi in Lilongwe, last week,” Lindian executive chairman Robert Martin said.

“It was also a pleasure to host DAS Checker over the weekend on a tour of site and to show him our current works programs, discuss our stage 1 and stage 2 production schedules and reiterate our near-term timelines to first production. The commitment for DAS Checker to visit the site from Washington shows that Kangankunde is becoming a significant part of the global rare earth supply chain.”

Kangankunde’s prospective contribution

Talks covered Kangankunde’s prospective contribution to addressing an emerging supply gap, particularly through processing routes aligned with demand centres in the US and allied countries.

Kangankunde’s scale, high-grade profile and low radionuclide characteristics are consistent with key criteria set out in several international critical minerals supply initiatives.

Lindian said the visit forms part of its broader strategy to maintain transparent, constructive relationships with key international stakeholders as Kangankunde advances toward production. It follows ongoing progress across early works, non-process infrastructure and contracting activities, which support the company’s pathway to initial production.

Lindian expects further engagement with US officials and other global partners as Kangankunde targets full production in 2026.
