Markets in a Minute: Gold surges, copper hits record

Good afternoon, and welcome to Proactive's Markets in a Minute wrap for the week.

In what's making headlines this Friday - gold prices touched just above 4270 USD an ounce at around lunchtime. The surge came after the US Federal Reserve’s latest quarter-point rate cut, which weighed on the US dollar and boosted gold’s appeal.

In parallel, copper prices hit an all-time high this week, following fresh warnings of a major global supply shortage.

Back on Aussie soil, let's take a look at some of the stocks that made news on the ASX this week.

GREEN

Lightning Minerals had a stellar week on news it's now planning an aggressive Phase 2 drilling program at its Mt Turner gold project.

Patriot Resources also shot up after entering an agreement to acquire a 100% interest in the high-grade Tassa Silver and Gold Deposit in the tier-1 silver jurisdiction of southern Peru.

RED

Marmota was down despite confirming spectacular gold grades at its Greenewood discovery, with one‑metre samples returning up to 109 grams per tonne near surface.

Nexus Minerals finished flat despite identifying five new prospects at its Wallbrook Gold Project now moving toward resource definition.
