Uber launches airport kiosks to simplify ride booking

Uber Technologies Inc (NYSE:UBER, XETRA:UT8) has introduced physical kiosks that allow travelers to book rides without using its mobile app, debuting at New York’s LaGuardia Airport Terminal C.

The touch-screen kiosks feature large displays, credit card readers, and receipt printers, offering users the ability to select destinations and ride types such as UberX or Comfort.

Payments are made upfront via card or mobile wallet, and a printed receipt provides trip details for drivers.

The kiosks are aimed at international travelers without local data plans and others who prefer in-person booking.

Uber owns and maintains the units, with plans to expand to hotels, ports, and additional international airports in the coming months.

The rollout coincides with major 2026 events, including the World Cup, as the company seeks to attract more riders.

In addition to the kiosks, Uber is expanding its shuttle services, introducing new fixed routes from Newark Liberty International Airport to Manhattan, joining existing shuttles at JFK and LaGuardia.

The moves reflect Uber’s broader strategy to simplify ride access amid modest adoption in its top markets, where only about 15% of adults use its rides or delivery services.

The company has also introduced app updates targeting seniors and commuter pass users, and rideshare bookings are projected to account for half of Uber’s 2025 gross bookings.

Shares of Uber fell 4.7% following the update, but remain up more than 40% this year.
